Fired by the boss, despised by friends, tormented by ghosts…Mr Chew can help

First of all, how does one get started in this line of work?
Destiny. I didn’t used to believe in all this…till someone put a curse on me, and for more than ten years, my life was a living hell. I went mad; I was tormented by evil spirits every night, puked mosquitoes, and lost so much weight, everyone thought I was doing drugs.

How did you come to be cursed?
I used to own a KTV in Batam. I was having problems with this mamas an so if fired her. She warned me,”Mr Chew, if you don’t hire me, you’re finished!” But I didn’t believe her, so when she brought me this yellow fruit that I had never seen before, I thought it looked delicious and ate it, not knowing that a curse had been put into it, She also buried my shirts with dead people, and their spirits tormented me every night for more than ten years! The local papers featured my case. No one could help me and I was so depeserate, I tried to killed myself[shows knife marks on wrist]. Till one day, the Jade Emperor [yu huang] possessed this priest, who is now my senior, and asked if I believed in him.

Did you?
How could I not believe? The Jade Emperor healed me! He pulled out a foot-long twine out of my navel and three needles from my shoulder. In return, I was to become his disciple, and step forward and help people.

What is your specialty?
I correct destinies. Say you’re fired by your boss. I can make him hire you back. If people don’t like you, no problem — I can change that, boost your popularity and credibility, so you will succeed at whatever you do in you career.

Who are your clients, and what do they want?
Many of my clients are professionals: engineers, economists, managing directors, senior officers in the armed forces, whole families, building contractors. I also have clients in the service industry: hairdressers, massage girls and “working ladies” from China, Vietnam and Thailand. I improve their chemistry with people so clients like them and come back to them often. One of the working ladies who came to me earned $50,000 in the two weeks she was in Singapore. Than there’s this 60-year-old mechanic who was fired by his boss. With my help, he got his job back, plus whatever he asked his boss, and he’s now earning more than $10,000 a month from commissions.

Does that mean you somehow cast a spell on his boss?
No, I altered the chemistry between my client and the people he comes in contact with. The boss now finds him very likable, trustable; he’s shed his former prejudice and listens more carefully to my client’s advice and opinions.

Seems unfair that people just come to you and get their wishes granted?
It’s not a matter of fairness. It’s a second chance, for people to change their destiny. Sometimes, success and failure boils down to chemistry between people. When there’s bad chemistry, everything you do just doesn’t seems right to your boss; whatever good ideas you have never goes through to him, and you never get any credit for whatever good work you do. It’s like there’s an impenetrable wall that makes it impossible for you and your boss to effectively communicate. I have the power to help you break that wall.

What is the source of that power if we may ask?
I’ve studied this craft for 10-odd years. I trained in Indonesia, Thailand, meditated on an uninhabited island, but most importantly, you must have spiritual affinity with the gods. Without powers that the gods invest in you, you will go nowhere no matter how many years you train. You will have no real power to change anything, only perhaps perform ceremonial roles. My teachers include the Jade Emperor, the Thousand-Arm Goddess of Mercy, and Chairman Mao.

The Chairman Mao of “let a hundred flowers bloom”?
That’s who he said he was! I was in Hainan Island making offerings to my ancestors when the spirit of Chairman Mao entered the body of a farmer, and spoke to me for two hours, telling me things about my past that even I had long forgotten, my present, and my future. And he also taught me how to grow my powers. I call him “Mao-Gong” out of respect. We have an affinity with each other because of the mole we both have on our chins.

So how’s Chairman Mao doing?
He didn’t talk much about himself. I find I don’t really understand him; definitely not as much as he understands me! He knew exactly how money I had on me, which year I dabbled in shares, when and how much I lost…it was as if he’d kept a dossier on me, and was reading straight from it! I didn’t ask him much about himself. Next time we talk, I will.

What about exorcisms?
The lady that earned $50,000 in two weeks: I had to perform an exorcism for her because every night, this male ghost – her lover from her previous life – comes and have sex with her. How does it feel? She’s in a haze, but the experience feels very real. She feels nothing having sex with other men, only with this ghost. A similar case in Batam was more sinister; the ghost not only had sex with his victim, he also caused the woman’s torso to bleed horribly. Took three sessions to exorcise this one!

Sound dangerous to work and travel in our neighbouring countries… It is! These people are very poor, so they resort to black magic to get whatever they want! It’s very common for them to keep ghouls…whether to tell them things, harm their enemies, or attract customers to their place of business.

How does one protect oneself then?
You can’t! It all depends on an individual’s birth characteristics, and his affinity to spiritual things, at that particular time. A travel tip: never say “I love you” carelessly. Women can get you for it, and then you’ll have to come and see me. Every problem, has a solution. But don’t wait too long. You reap what you sow. It’s a law of the universe.

Do men come to you to help the score?
I can make a person become well liked, and people around him more ready to believe, support him. But if you mean to help a man get laid, this I don’t do, unless it’s his own wife. It is against my principles!

Can you protect your clients from veneral diseases?
Evil spirits can affect our health…one of my clients was haemorhaging for months and no one knew why even after three operations, I healed him in one session, verified by his doctor. But veneral disease…it’s not possible! It’s not evil spiits at work here, but a matter of personal conduct!

What props do you like to use?
For performing magic? Haha, I know barely enough magic to amuse my granddaughter! I have no props, no costumes, no sword; I don’t even own a bell. But if you’re jobless, I can give you success, good fortune, and popularity. I can change your life. In a week.
